The year 2022 was the year that celebrating June 28th became an annual event on my calendar. Today is my 2nd heart attack survival anniversary.
I was with my dear friend, Samantha, who is like a daughter to us, and her 3 week old son when my heart attack started. Together we decided the 3 mile walk that was intended for that morning would be our annual celebration.
Last year, on the first anniversary, Samantha and Greg pulled off a big surprise for me. Greg orchestrated a group of friends to meet at the Greenway, to do the walk with us, followed by ice cream at Culver’s. The outpouring of love and support for me from these friends was something I will always cherish and appreciate. Greg and I took treats to the nurses at Cardiac Rehab and then went out for a nice dinner. It was truly a full day of celebrating my life.
Here I am, on June 28, 2024, revisiting all those memories – the bad and the good – and I continue to be so thankful to be alive! I’ll be walking with Samantha in a little while, going to see her kids in their Fourth of July parade at their school and dinner with Greg and more friends this evening. Happy 2nd anniversary to me!
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
