Don't eat lemons, make lemonade – Making life sweet in the bitter moments

Today is National Sunflower Day, and it seems like the perfect day to share something that’s been on my heart for a long time.

If someone had told me a year ago that I would be announcing my first book on National Sunflower Day, I never would have believed them.  Yet somehow, it feels exactly the way it was meant to be.

When I first began writing this blog, I wasn’t trying to write a book.  I was simply sharing my heart—one story at a time.  Some stories were difficult to write, others made me laugh, and many were written during the quiet early morning hours when I couldn’t sleep.  What I didn’t realize was that those stories were slowly becoming something bigger than I ever imagined.

Over time, one theme kept appearing. No matter what life placed in front of me—a heart attack, a Parkinson’s diagnosis, or the many unexpected seasons that followed—I kept finding myself drawn back to my faith.  That is why the sunflower became such a meaningful symbol to me.  A sunflower doesn’t create its own light; it simply turns toward it.  That simple truth reminded me where I wanted to keep my focus—not on the circumstances I couldn’t change, but on the One who never changes.

That is how Life Like a Sunflower was born.

Over the past several months, I’ve been busy turning many of these blog posts into a book while also writing new stories that have never been shared before.  There have been moments of laughter, moments of tears, and more editing than I ever dreamed possible.  Looking back, I can honestly say this book became much more than a collection of stories.  It became a reflection of what God has taught me through some of life’s most unexpected seasons.

Today, I’m excited—and just a little nervous—to finally tell you that Life Like a Sunflower: Finding Joy in Life’s Unexpected Seasons will be released this fall.

If you’ve enjoyed walking this journey with me through this blog, I’d love for you to continue the journey with me.  I’ve created a simple form where you can sign up to be the first to know when the book becomes available.  I’ll also share updates about the release, book signings, and a few special surprises along the way.

I’d love to have you join me for this next chapter: 🌻 Be the First to Know

Thank you for reading my stories, encouraging me, praying for me, and reminding me why I started writing in the first place.  Your kindness has meant more to me than you’ll ever know, and I truly can’t wait to share this book with you.

With love,

Susan 🌻

P.S. If you know someone who could use a little encouragement, I’d be honored if you shared this post with them.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 15:13

I’m Susan

Thank you for visiting my site.

It is with great determination that I am living life to the fullest as I journey through my retirement years with
Heart Disease and Parkinson’s.
I hope you find encouragement as you follow along on my journey.

Motto’s I live by:

  • If you’re living in fear, you’re not living in faith.
  • Today I refuse to stress myself out about things I cannot control or change.
  • It’s hard to have a bad attitude, when you start your day with gratitude.

Favorite scripture:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 NIV
