Election Anxiety?

This morning I find myself wondering how my readers are feeling about the upcoming election.  I’m not wondering about which side of politics you are on, I’m wondering how it is affecting your health.

I love the devotional books written by Sarah Young.  What I read this morning in her book titled Jesus Always gave me great comfort as I was thinking about our country and where we are today.

“Trust in my unfailing love – thanking Me for the good you do not see. When evil seems to be flourishing in the world around you, it can look as if things are spinning out of control. But rest assured: I’m not wringing My hands helplessly, wondering what to do next. I am still in control, and there is behind-the-scenes goodness in the midst of the turmoil. So I urge you to thank Me not only for the blessings you can see but for the ones you cannot see.”

It would be very easy for me to get caught up listening to the media, but I will not allow myself to go there. Watching the news today is not like when I was growing up and Walter Cronkite came on every evening with an objective view of that day’s events.  Sadly, we no longer receive unbiased facts of the day.  I know when I listen to too much “news” it is not good for my health.  It can cause my anxiety to spin out of control and that’s the last thing I need for my heart health.

Greg and I cast our votes last week in early voting.   After pushing the button on the machine that says – Cast Your Vote, I know I have done my part and other than praying for the future leaders, that’s all I can do.  Shortly after the 9/11 attacks on our country, my sister-in-law said to me, “None of this surprises God.”  I know that statement is true today about the outcome of this election and world events in the days, months, and years to come.

For the next couple of weeks I plan to get outside and enjoy the beautiful crisp fall weather where I live.  I will not be listening to any “news” about the election until it is over.  I will remind myself daily of the statement I have on my phone screen saver “Today I refuse to stress myself out about the things I cannot control or change.”  If you find yourself feeling anxious I hope you will do the same.

I completely agree with you! I also do not spend that much time watching the news about the election, and it makes a big difference in my peace of mind(plus praying about it).

I haven’t watched the news in several years. Regardless of what party is in the White House, God is in complete control. He knows the future and He will provide for His children.

Thank you for sharing your devotional that you read this morning. God is in control. I find myself worrying and wondering how so many are so accepting of sin and evil in this world. We have also already cast our vote and continue to pray for our country continuously.

Beautiful testimony this morning. This world belongs to God and He has this in his plans.

I’m Susan

Thank you for visiting my site.

It is with great determination that I am living life to the fullest as I journey through my retirement years with
Heart Disease and Parkinson’s.
I hope you find encouragement as you follow along on my journey.

Motto’s I live by:

  • If you’re living in fear, you’re not living in faith.
  • Today I refuse to stress myself out about things I cannot control or change.
  • It’s hard to have a bad attitude, when you start your day with gratitude.

Favorite scripture:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 NIV
